What is Topic of the Month?
In Build Up we want that everyone feels involved. That is what the Topic of the Month is for, so all the community can contribute with articles, events and much more under the same topic.
This month of May our topic is ‘Building Operation’.
Which content is related to the topic?
- Real vs predicted performance of new and renovated buildings
- User comfort
- User-building interaction
- Building performance: Building monitoring, continuous commissioning and building automation
- Builiding and plants operation and maintenance
- Energy Management Systems
Here you have the remarkable contributions of this month:
Building operation: the elusive alignment of research, design and occupants. When exploring building operation and its relationship with energy efficiency, one might at times only consider building occupancy and occupant behaviour. In addition, design choices are often informed by models in which occupant behaviour is assumed to remain constant or left out of the equation.
Webinar on ExcEED project Database: from data to information to knowledge. This webinar presents the project results up to date analysing the current stage in regard to the project goals. ExcEED project has developed a collaborative platform that aims to be feed with as much data as possible.
The 5th International Symposium on Hydrogen Energy, Renewable Energy and Materials. HEREM 2019 aims at providing unique platform for researchers, scientists, engineers and professionals from all over the world to present their latest research result and new ideas in the fields of Materials and Energy.
Embodied Carbon – Updated ICE Database and RICS Building Carbon Database. The purpose of the event is to showcase updated versions of two important resources, the ICE (Inventory of Carbon and Energy) Database developed by Circular Ecology’s Craig Jones, and the new-look RICS Building Carbon Database, formerly the WRAP Embodied Carbon Database.
Webinar on Building Operation and User Experience key to Enhanced Building Performance. BUILD UP in collaboration with the eTEACHER, MOBISTYLE and MOEEBIUS H2020 projects organised this webinar that addresses, among others, the way occupants use and interact with buildings to lower energy consumption and/or to raise levels of comfort and the quality of the indoor environment.
One step closer to the mutual recognition of upskilled professionals in the construction sector. To support the professional execution of nearly zero-energy buildings new pilot “Train the Trainer” courses are being implemented in Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands and Slovakia. The nearly zero-energy building standard will very shortly become mandatory for new buildings.
Smart 3D modelling for buildings. It is one of the most famous museums in the world, with more than one million visitors every year: the Guggenheim. This architectural masterpiece, designed by Frank Gehry in the ninety’s, was a pioneering piece of construction that tested the building information modelling (BIM) method.
Opportunities for heating and cooling - Study. In the context of meeting the energy savings targets of the European Union and improving the energy efficiency of its buildings, this Joint Research Centre Technical Report looks at the technologies, opportunities and challenges presented by digitalisation for heating and cooling.
Living Trends 2035: Digitalization is revolutionizing the living of the future. The German housing association (GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungs) has published a report. This report explores the housing requirements of the future. In this study, it has been proposed that the new (future) housing requirements can be classified into eight overarching trends.
Thermomodernization of Nursery in Chmielnik. This full energy renovation of a public building is certainly beneficial in the local context, and in Poland where coal is still widely used for heating, it is an important good practice with a lighthouse effect. The main beneficiaries of the project are children with their parents.
World's tallest Passive House: high-rise Bolueta (Bilbao-Spain). The developers and architects of this project have set very high goals. With the Bolueta building, they wanted to set a new Passive House record and at the same time ensure the quality of the building through certification. Bolueta is now the tallest Passive House building in the world.
ReCO2ST project, a research program aiming to better building & living. ReCO2ST applies an easy 3-step approach to building renovations, resulting in major savings and heightened standards of living: the interactive Refurbishment Assessment Tool, the Integrated Project Delivery tool, and finally, the selected refurbishment package of innovative technologies is deployed as a customizable Retrofit-Kit.
HEART project: Holistic Energy and Architectural Retrofit Toolkit. The HEART toolkit incorporates different components and technologies, which cooperate to transform an existing building into a smart building. In developing this toolkit, the project advances and improves energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies in buildings across Europe.
