Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Commission, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) launched a new Practitioner's Guide on the Statistical Treatment of Energy Performance Contracts on the 8th of May.   The Guide explains in detail how these contracts work and gives a clear overview of the potential impact on government finances.

History   The history of the IEA began with the 1973-1974 Middle East War crisis and its immediate aftermath.   While oil producing countries appeared relatively well organized to utilize their new oil based economic and political power, many OECD countries found themselves inadequately equipped with the information and organization necessary to meet the corresponding challenges.

Concept and Objectives   The main goal of QUEST is to promote investments in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency by identifying and empirically risk-grading factors that influence performance.   QUEST will develop a simple toolkit to evaluate these investments. It may be easily applied to all types of Sustainability and Energy Efficiency investments and covers project design-construction-operation risks.

The ReUseHeat report "Accessible Urban Waste Heat" shows a significant heat recovery potential from unconventional excess heat sources. Approximately 1.2 EJ (or 340 TWh) per year are possible to recover from data centres, metro stations, service sector buildings, and waste water treatment plants. This corresponds to more than 10 percent of the EU's total energy demand for heat and hot water, which is approximately 10.7 EJ (or 2,980 TWh).

The Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum was first launched in 2014. In February 2019 a two-day event was held in which significant achievements and challenges in the evolution of this initiative were reviewed. Over 700 participants gathered for the event and alongside networking spaces, keynote speeches, and panel discussions, 30 research and implementation projects concerning sustainable energy and climate adaptation were presented.

Many project promoters lack the skills and capacity to set up, implement and finance ambitious low-energy and clean energy building projects. This is why the European Commission has set up several tools to help project promoters finance the energy refurbishment of buildings. The ManagEnergy and FEDARENE webinar will focus on two of them: Project Development Assistance (PDA) and Home Renovation Services, both funded under Horizon 2020.

REScoop MECISE is a Horizon 2020 PDA project that aims to mobilise citizens and municipalities in the transition to a more sustainable and decentralised energy system. With support from the EASME, a consortium of established energy cooperatives developed projects for renewable energy and energy efficiency. The project also set-up a financial facilitation service for energy communities and foster collaborations between energy cooperatives and local municipalities.
