The growth of global urban population drives unprecedented construction, resulting in embodied carbon emissions from new buildings alone to excess of 100 gigatons by 2060. If all construction activity, including infrastructure and renovations, are included, the global construction activity carbon until 2060 is set to exceed 230 gigatons, unless carbon intensity is drastically cut.

In order to inform its future policy-making, the European Commission is currently conducting a survey across Europe on architects’ activities with respect to energy renovation and nearly zero energy buildings (nzeb). The survey shall enable to better understand solutions developed by architects, barriers to their implementation and drivers behind architects’ and clients’ choices. In 2016, Obvion issued Europe's first 100% green RMBS (Residential Mortgage Backed Security); meaning the assets backing the bond are green residential mortgages, ie. linked to energy efficient homes, and that the proceeds of the bond issuance will finance those green residential mortgages.   Part of Green Storm 2016, the pool contains a mix of energy efficient homes, as well as houses that have been refurbished to improve energy performance.
