Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Commission, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) launched a new Practitioner's Guide on the Statistical Treatment of Energy Performance Contracts on the 8th of May.   The Guide explains in detail how these contracts work and gives a clear overview of the potential impact on government finances.

A New Model Combining Energy Efficiency and Demand Response   As part of the NOVICE project, Joule Assets Europe conducted a research study measuring the appeal and financial viability of the NOVICE dual revenue stream Energy Performance Contract (EPC), which looks to combine Energy Efficiency (EE) and Demand Response (DR).

Annex 62 “Ventilative cooling” of the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme “Energy in Buildings and Communities” was an international research project running from 2014 to 2018.   The research focus of the annex was on the development of design methods and compliance tools related to predicting, evaluating and eliminating/minimizing the cooling need and the risk of overheating in buildings as well as on the development of new attractive energy efficient ventilative cooling solutions.

Industry representatives, regional experts, academics and EU officials held the first public meeting of the research study group: ‘Infrastructure needs of an EU industrial transformation towards deep decarbonisation’.   The initiative aims to identify what infrastructure will be needed to meet energy and carbon-intensive industrial areas new demands for electricity and hydrogen.

The European Commission has welcomed the publication of the three new important reports by the Technical Expert Group (TEG) on sustainable finance, including key recommendations on the types of economic activities that can make a real contribution to climate change mitigation or adaptation (see official press release).   The first report, supported by EIT Climate-KIC’s expertise, provides a classification system – or taxonomy – for environmentally-sustainable economic activities.
