Under the European Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU, EU countries should set up an energy efficiency obligation scheme. This scheme requires energy companies to achieve yearly energy savings of 1.5% of annual sales to final consumers.In order to reach this target, companies have to carry out measures which help final consumers improve energy efficiency. This may include improving the heating system in consumers' homes, installing double glazed windows, or better insulating roofs to reduce energy consumption.

Turkey is included for the first time in Top 10 Countries for LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), the United States Green Building Council’s annual ranking that highlights countries outside of the U.S. which are making significant strides in sustainable building design, construction and transformation, illustrating the ever-growing international demand for LEED green buildings. The announcement comes at a time of increased international focus on climate change mitigation in the lead up to the United Nations' COP21 climate negotiations in December 2015.

Valladolid-based Fundación CARTIF played host to the R2CITIES consortium on 21-22 May when the project’s 4th periodic meeting was held.This four-year project is now at its mid-term and coordinator Rubén García opened the meeting by presenting the ground covered over this first half of the project´s lifecycle. He emphasised how the consortium had been able to deal with a change of demonstrator in the first year and how the project consortium had become a good team with most deliverables accomplished on schedule and validated.

Mid-April saw the BRICKER project’s first review, a year and a half into the project. Members of the consortium convened in the Belgian capital and delivered presentations in the presence of the Project Officer and Project Technical Advisor.

Nothing can replace the value and insight gained by a hands-on visit.
This was the case when members of the project consortium and cluster cities combined a recent project meeting with technical visits at the Soma demonstration site.
The retrofitting interventions in the district of Manisa Province cover an area of 41 158 m2 in 346 dwellings on a site owned by SOMA Electricity Generation & Trading Joint Stock Company (SEAŞ). The former use being housing for the companies personnel.
