The EPBD recast established that all new buildings have to reach by the end of 2020 the nZEB target set by the Member States. The scope of this report is to provide a CRAVEzero cost spreadsheet, implementing a comprehensive and structured methodology in order to evaluate the LCC with a particular focus on nZEBs.

This report provides the world's largest database of commissioning case studies for new and existing buildings. It represents a major update and expansion of a study initially published in 2004, with roughly three-times as many projects. We gathered and analysed data on 643 buildings, representing 99 million square feet of floor space from 26 states. The database incorporates the work of 37 commissioning providers.

The International Energy Agency's Energy Efficiency Market Report 2017 shows that German citizens have had the highest benefit from realised measures for increased energy efficiency. The average expenditures per household were USD 580 (around €500) lower in 2016 compared to 2015. Without energy efficiency measures since 2000 the energy related costs per household would have been 27% higher in 2016.

You can contribute to identify barriers to nZEB via the AZEB project
The AZEB project aims to show how Zero Energy Buildings can be made affordable in the whole life cycle of buildings, from design to construction and maintenance. Optimizing construction processes to fully integrate available solutions in the areas of process, technology and contracting is seen as the largest potential in lifecycle cost reduction.

The benefits of the analysis at the settlement level arise not only from the larger scale compared to single buildings, but also, importantly, from looking at a system of houses with their interactions. This means, for instance, cost reduction through the deployment of renewable energy technologies at the settlement level instead of individually in each building.
