Presented on 16 June 2015, the European Commission's Renewable Energy Progress Report reveals that EU countries are well on the way to meeting the EU's target for 20% renewable energy in the overall energy supply by 2020. The report shows that, apart from this target, the EU is also on track to meet the challenging 10% target for renewable energy use in transport.

The project “Clean Energy Cooperation with India (CECI)” aims to enhance India's capacity to deploy low carbon energy production and improve energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the mitigation of global climate change. Project activities will support India's efforts to secure the supply of energy and thus contribute to global energy security. Among others, European businesses in the energy technologies sector (renewables, energy efficiency, electrical network equipment) are to be involved.

According to the report, Europe has made significant progress towards completion of the energy internal market with increased interconnections; it has one of the best records worldwide in terms of energy intensity and a more balanced energy mix than its major partners.

This framework proposes ambitious targets for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and renewable energy as part of the European Union's (EU) transition to a competitive low carbon economy. It also promotes reduced energy dependency and more affordable energy for business and consumers via a well-functioning internal market.

Currently, the European Union has energy rules set at the European level, but in practice it has 28 national regulatory frameworks. An integrated energy market is needed to create more competition, lead to greater market efficiency through better use of energy generation facilities across the EU and to produce affordable prices for consumers.
