Europe faces many challenges in energy policy and climate change abatement. The European cogeneration sector is playing a key role in reaching the EU energy savings target of 20% in 2020. In 2011 the revision of the Cogeneration Directive and the new Energy Efficiency Action Plan will feature high on the EU energy policy agenda. COGEN Europe will seize these opportunities next year to emphasise the proven capability and still untapped potential for cogeneration at its main annual event.

The COGEN Europe Annual Conference & Awards Dinner on Thursday 24 March 2011 will bring the strongest advocates and the most influential thinkers to Brussels to highlight the significant role which energy efficiency and cogeneration in particular must play in reaching strategic EU energy goals. The theme of the one-day conference is “Cogeneration at the foundation of Europe’s energy policy” and we will be focusing on policy developments, market potentials and best practice examples.

During the conference period the Cogeneration Directive will be in revision. Ms Marie Donnelly, Director for new and renewable sources of energy, energy efficiency and Innovation at DG Energy at the European Commission, will give the keynote speech on the Commission’s latest thinking. Key stakeholders will present their views on the opportunities and challenges presented by policy driven changes in the heat and electricity market. They also discuss the significance of heat in a future more integrated market for energy.
