Information on construction products is heavily regulated at European level by Regulation EC 305/2011 (Construction Products Regulation or CPR). Manufacturers are obliged by this law to declare the performance of most construction products according to the relevant harmonised standards. The CPR sets the framework for the common technical language which is detailed by the relevant harmonised product standard, until now in a written format. The common technical language of the harmonised standards does not yet include digitalisation.

Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) standards are nowadays on every energy efficiency expert's lips. We are at a turning point in the road towards a homogenous energy efficiency market. However, the goal is not yet achieved. The future of EPB standards is in the hands of all energy efficiency stakeholders.

The Solar Keymark was created to certify solar thermal collectors and solar thermal systems, storages and controllers at European level. The aim is to reduce trade barriers and promote the use of high quality solar thermal products in the European market and beyond. The Solar Keymark is a CEN/CENELEC voluntary third-party certification mark for solar thermal products, demonstrating to end-users that a product conforms to the relevant European standards and fulfils additional requirements.

The Heat Pump KEYMARK is a voluntary, independent, European certification mark for all heat pumps, combination heat pumps and heat pump water heaters (as covered by Ecodesign, EU Regulation 813/2013 and 814/2013).

On 14th June 2012 a Plenary Meeting of the European Committee for Standardization CEN/TC 88 “Thermal insulation materials and products” took place in Munich. The CEN/TC 88 committee agreed on the following decision: Decision 551 (Munich 1, 2012-06-14): Creation of a new Working Group "VIP" and Appointment of its Convenor.CEN/TC 88 agrees to create the WG11 "VIP", dealing with the NWI for vacuum insulation panels (prEN ISO 16478) with VA with ISO/TC 163/SC3 under CEN/TC 88 lead (see Resolution 550).
