ATLANTA – More than 160 refrigerants are maintained under ASHRAE’s refrigerant classification standard, and that list continues to grow as the industry’s need for new refrigerants increases.   A review of the new classes of lower global-warming potential (GWP) refrigerants within the context of legacy refrigerants and the forces that drive the development of new refrigerants is the focus of a new educational course from ASHRAE Learning Institute (ALI).

On 1 December 2016, the fourth annual C40 Cities Award Ceremony took place in Mexico City. Houses built with bio-based materials, such as timber, straw and hemp, act as CO2 banks. Experts explain how citizens can become custodians of atmospheric carbon dioxide and thus help reduce air pollution.   Domestic efforts play an important role in curbing global warming. Besides producing and using renewables, homes can also act as banks that store CO2. This innovative building model exploits bio-based materials, such as timber, straw and hemp, which act as “carbon sequestrators.”
