On 18 June 2015, Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič told EurActiv that stricter energy efficiency and performance laws and further enforcements on existing regulation will come in 2016. These new rules - expected to be laid down in the end of 2016 - will include stronger requirements than the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
