In June 2017, the EUSEW 2017 Policy Conference dedicated its over 60 sessions to the several facets of the Clean Energy for All European package. Among them, the session “The role of standardisation towards higher Energy Performance of Buildings”, organized by the European Builders Confederation,  was entirely dedicated to describe how and to which extent the building sector can benefit from standardisation.

TILOS project (Technology Innovation for the Local Scale, Optimum Integration of Battery Energy Storage), which belongs to INEA's Horizon 2020 energy portfolio, celebrated success yesterday at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).   It's been named the best energy island project as well as the citizens' choice, winning two EU Sustainable Energy Awards. The prizes recognise outstanding innovation in energy efficiency and renewables.

Buildings account for around half of the EU’s total energy consumption. As a result, energy efficiency of buildings is a major theme in the European Commission’s Clean Energy for All Europeans package of proposals and a focus of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), which takes place from 21-25 June.   But buildings must be more than just energy efficient of course. As we spend up to 90% of our time indoors, buildings and the environment they create also have a significant impact on our comfort, well-being and even health.

The session will focus on the replication potential of the energy-related smart solutions being implemented in the SCC1 Lighthouse cities.   The Smart Cities and Communities lighthouse projects are funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, with the aim of bringing together cities, industry and citizens to demonstrate solutions and business models that can be scaled up and replicated, and that lead to measurable benefits in energy and resource efficiency, new markets and new jobs.
