Commissioning of a boiler room is the process of assuring that all systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated and maintained so that the awaited performance is reached. This document by Cegibat, the information center of the French gas distribution company GRDF (Gaz réseau distribution France), describes in 7 steps the commissioning of a boiler room, from the project design to the operation. A check list is also available showing in detail the unitary operations of the commissioning of a boiler room that can be used to ensure its traceability.

On August 1, 2016 the Federal German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy launched two new promotion programmes concerning high efficient heat pumps, hydraulic calibration of heat distribution systems and the use of fuel cells for heating buildings. The optimisation of existing heating systems shall lead to quick and cost efficient energy and CO2 savings. It is expected that until 2020 up to 2 million heat pumps per year can be exchanged and 200000 hydraulic calibrations will be realised, thus saving about 1.8 million tons of CO2 emissions.

Am 1. August 2016 hat das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie zwei neue Förderprogramme für die Energiewende im Heizungskeller gestartet: Das Förderprogramm zur Heizungsoptimierung durch hocheffiziente Heizungspumpen und hydraulischen Abgleich und die Förderung von Brennstoffzellen-Heizungen. Durch die Optimierung der Bestandsheizungen sollen schnell und kostengünstig Energie- und CO2-Einsparungen erzielt werden. Es sollen bis 2020 jährlich bis zu 2 Millionen Pumpen ausgetauscht und 200.000 hydraulische Abgleiche durchgeführt werden.

So far seasonal storage systems, mostly realised as hot water storage systems, had to be rather large in order to use summer heat for heating during the winter. Smaller storage systems tend to cool down too quickly. Therefore seasonal storage systems are mostly applied for housing estates or large consumers. Within the SolSpaces project, scientists are developing and testing a new solar heating system including an evacuated tube air collector and a thermochemical heat storage system to store solar heat for the use in winter.
