In early October four REMOURBAN partners headed off to Budapest, Hungary, for the SCIS conference to meet with other Lighthouse and Smart Cities projects and help drive a smart and sustainable vision for Europe.
Entitled “Empowering smart solutions for better cities”, the conference gathered project developers, towns and cities, and industry players, all of whom participated in a series of topical workshops and parallel sessions.

The conference Empowering smart solutions for better cities, taking place in Budapest on 2 & 3 October 2017, will bring together creative thinkers and decision-makers in urban planning, sustainable energy, mobility, ICT, smart business models and user-centric innovation. High level city representatives will debate the transformation of European cities, while smart cities projects will showcase innovative solutions and discuss crucial steps on the path to a smarter city.

Across Europe, cities work together to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions that help accelerate transition towards a low-carbon, resource efficient, competitive and inclusive economy in urban areas. The Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) is in charge of collecting and analysing data from these solutions, so we are asking cities to share their stories and experiences.

The challenge to develop smart cities is not only a technological challenge but also a regulatory, financial and social one. In fact, some non-technical issues may be more challenging to resolve than the technological barriers and the success of a project can depend on this.

EU Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) is an innovative project aiming to bring together like-minded interests and individuals to encourage knowledge sharing and greater collaboration in the long-term goal of creating smart cities and an energy efficient Europe. Supported by the European Commission, this project is a continuation of the CONCERTO series of projects, which started in 2005.
