1st European Energy Service Media Award

For the first time the Berliner Energieagentur bestows the European Energy Service Media Award to journalists who address the subject of energy services, e.g. Energy Performance Contracting, in an outstanding way. They must distinguish themselves because of the generally understandable way in which this complex theme is treated. The European Association of Energy Service Companies (eu.ESCO) awards the best work with a prize money of 3,000 Euro. Until the 16th of May 2010, applications are received by Berliner Energieagentur, the initiator of this competition in the framework of the European Energy Service Initiative (EESI). http://www.european-energy-service-initiative.net/de/eesma.html

The EU wishes to better tap the possibilities and potentials of energy services in the future and has therefore brought to life the European Energy Service Initiative in 2009. Considering the depletion of non-renewable resources and global climate change, new solutions for energy supply become increasingly important. Energy service companies (ESCOs) in Europe are already showing that energy efficiency and profitability do not contravene. Innovative Energy Performance Contracts can reduce energy consumption of buildings by 25 percent and more.

Since lack of information is still one barrier to further implementation of energy services (e.g. Energy Performance Contracting), the Berliner Energieagentur bestows the European Energy and honours the performance of engaged journalists, which popularise and illustrate the subject of energy services to the large public and specialized audience.

The Award comes with a prize money of 3,000 Euros and is a new category of the European Energy Service Award and was sponsored by the European Association of Energy Service Companies (eu.ESCO) and will be bestowed for the year 2009 for the first time.
