In the framework of the EU projects MaTrID and AIDA, an interesting workshop on integrated energy design was held in Vienna on the 26th of November, 2014. The main outcomes from MaTrID and AID projects were presented as well as the presentations of many real cases which were given as best practice of integrated energy design.
These projects demonstrated the experience from practice on integrated energy design (IED), examples and guidelines of IED in municipalities and general recommendations on IED.
Many real case studies from all over Europe were presented with examples such as: the building project in Univesrity of Innsbruck (Austria), the Hotel "Golden Tulip" in Zakopane (Poland), the Arts centre CreativeWorks (UK), the Hotel project in Milos (Greece) and the Residential building Petrzalske dvory (Slovakia).
The workshop ended with a visit to the Aspern IQ building where the workshop was organized. A study tour to the construction site of Aspern Urban Lakeside, the biggest city development area in Austria also took place.
The technology centre Aspern IQ is the winner of the GreenBuilding Integrated Design Award 2014 and other top-class distinctions. Aspern IQ is a vital signal of Vienna´s efforts on energy efficiency and renewable energies in buildings. The building combines passive house quality and a energy plus standard.
Aspern IQ is located in the city development area Seestadt Aspern. The Aspern Urban Lakeside development is the creation of a "city within a city". It has a diverse spectrum of urban functions and is a brand new centre for Vienna's 22nd district, the surrounding area and the wider Centrope region. Given the long development horizon of more than two decades, the property owners and the City of Vienna have agreed on a cooperative management process to ensure a universal high quality planning, design and implementation throughout.
