Upgrading Energy Performance Certificates with Building Renovation Passports

New report enquiries the integration potential of iBRoad2EPC
Editorial Team

Can Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) be combined with Building Renovation Passports (BRPs) to improve energy renovation efforts? This question is explored in a recently published report, titled "Conceptualising iBRoad2EPC" released by BPIE - Building Performance Institute Europe.

Buildings play a crucial role in lowering greenhouse gas emissions, but there are challenges to address, and only a few countries have fully explored the possibilities of Energy Performance Certificates (EPC).

The report highlights the need to improve the quality and reliability of national EPC schemes and suggests integrating elements of Building Renovation Passport (BRPs) to enhance their effectiveness. By combining these two tools, EPCs can become a powerful catalyst for comprehensive and staged energy renovations.

The study focuses on the concept of iBRoad2EPC, which acts as a connection between existing EPC schemes and future Building Renovation Passport (BRPs), offering personalized renovation pathways. The study explores the maturity of the market potential of the six countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain) that will implement iBRoad2EPC.
