EMB3Rs platform to evaluate the reuse and trade of waste heating and cooling

The EMB3Rs project has developed a platform which allows to evaluate the reuse and trade of waste heating and cooling, empowering industrial users and stakeholders to know the economic potential of their investments.
Editorial Team

The EMB3RS project aims at adding value to waste heat and cooling (HC) and make better use of renewable energy sources. One of the main goal has been the development of the platform which allows energy-intensive industry to explore ways to reuse their excess thermal energy.

The platform comprises five modules:

  1. Core functionalities (CF) module which provides a comprehensive quantification of the energy flows of the platform objects and costs associated with different options for HC recovery and use.
  2. Geographic information system (GIS) module which analyses possible network solutions for a given set of sources and an assumption of related network heat/cold losses and cost.
  3. Techno-economic optimisation (TEO) module which identifies least-cost combinations of technology
  4. Market module (MM) which provides users with economic and fairness indicators.
  5. Business module (BM) which evaluates various business modules for district heating and cooling incorporating excess heat.
