The Passive House is the world's leading standard in energy-efficient construction: The energy savings as compared to mandatory new building standards amount to more than 80 per cent. Heating costs for a home are reduced to only ten to 25 Euros per month - high energy prices therefore hardly affect Passive House residents. The space heating demand in a Passive House is less than 15 kWh/(m2a) (with respect to the treated floor area).

This scheme is now closed. The eighth framework programme funding research, technological development, and innovation is Horizon 2020.   The complete name of FP7 is 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. The programme has a total budget of over € 50 billion for the period 2007-2013. This represents a substantial increase compared with the previous Framework Programme FP6, a reflection of the high priority of research in Europe.
