The Interreg Southwest European Space Territorial Cooperation Programme (SUDOE) Programme is part of the European territorial cooperation objective (Interreg), which in turn is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The current programming period runs from 2014 to 2020.
SUDOE promotes transnational cooperation between regions of Southwest Europe (Spanish regions (except the Canary Islands), the six regions of southwest France, the continental regions of Portugal, United Kingdom (Gibraltar) and the Principality of Andorra) to help solve common issues such as low investment in research and development, low competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and exposure to climate change risks and environmental problems.
Projects approved under the program should deal with one of five thematic priorities:
- Research and innovation;
- Competitiveness of SMEs;
- Low-carbon economy;
- Fighting climate change;
- Environmental and resource efficiency.
