Climate change is a global challenge that has no borders and already affects our everyday lives. The EU has decided on a reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 40% to 2030. The 2030 climate and energy framework includes EU-wide targets and policy objectives to 2030 and also to 2050. In order to combat climate change and reach the targets, coordinated work, effective energy and climate policies, as well as plans and strategies in place are needed.
Local and regional authorities have the power to influence climate issues, however often lack the capacity to recognise challenges, opportunities and deliver solution. This is particularly true for small- and medium sized local authorities which face several challenges when it comes to energy planning and implementation, so local authorities should definitely be supported to ensure the effective implementation of climate and energy policies.
The conference aims to bring together all stakeholders involved in energy, climate planning and in the transition to a low carbon society: local, regional, national authorities, decision-makers, technicians, academia, NGOs, networks.
Participants of the conference will have the opportunity to get first-hand experience from the participating regions and local authorities and benefit from projects’ results (tools, e-platforms) that can be transferable to different local settings.
Finding an answer to reduce global warming is not possible by going alone. In the first session supporting structures will be presented. Speakers of the session include representatives of the Climate Alliance, Energy Cities and EASME.
During the second session successful initiatives will be presented strengthening local and regional authorities to meet the EU climate- and energy targets (including capacity building, stakeholder engagement, multi level governance, energy management tools).
The last session is a panel discussion. Local and regional authorities will be invited to share their experience and best practices on long-term energy planning and multi-level governance and define how to best meet the the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate and energy targets.
The participations is free of charge. Please register here.
