The Belgian Building Research Institute is a private research institute founded in 1960 under impulse of the National Federation of Belgian Building Contractors in application of the so-called "De Groote" decree-law of 1947.
This decree-law named after the former Minister of Economic Affairs was specifically aimed at the promotion of applied research in the construction industry, in order to improve its competitiveness.

The A2PBEER research project focused on “energy efficient retrofitting” methodology for public buildings. Within the context of this project it has been developed an initial systemic energy efficient buildings’ retrofitting methodology for the three demonstration sites with the intention to provide a retrofitting methodology to be replicated into Public Buildings in Europe. This will take advantage of synergies derived from interventions at the district levels.

On 12th March the 2019 call for proposals for the Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy topics of the Horizon 2020 EU funding programme was launched.
The funding is available for proposals submitted under 16 topics addressing 5 main areas: buildings, industry, finance, public authorities and policy support and consumer and services.
The deadline for submission of proposals is 3rd September 2019.

Bolzano Training School is oriented to European professionals, researchers, PhD and master students from the construction and Facilities Management sector with the goal of providing them with the tools to include restorative concepts in their daily work. The aim is to bridge the gap between current common construction practice and the new sustainable construction process.

Long-term building renovation strategies will be key to supporting the decarbonisation of the EU building stock while National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) outline measures contributing to reaching these targets. What does this mean for research and innovation in the building renovation sector? Will this new framework be able to mobilise investments to drive innovation in urban retrofit, smart technologies and skills?
