Are Green Buildings Biophilic? Why the answer matters, particularly in Asia, Part 1
‘Green’ in Asia is dominated by certification tools. There are now some 14 national variants – not unlike LEED in the US – each offering tiered ratings at the building scale, some at the urban scale. The rating is determined by an aggregated score, the result of compliance with requirements that focus on measurable outcomes such as energy and water efficiency.

Investor Confidence Project (ICP) Europe is developing a suite of building energy renovation roadmaps - Energy Performance Protocols - that aim to reduce transaction costs by assembling existing standards and practices into a consistent and transparent process. These tools then enable a marketplace for building owners, project developers, utilities, public programmes and investors to trade in standardised energy efficiency projects.

VELUX Langfang Office is the headquarters of VELUX China. Located in the Hebei province, around 45 kilometers from Beijing, the building houses management, marketing and the technical department and sales division.The two-storey building, with sloping walls and in the shape of a pyramid with cut-out top, is the workplace of 54 employees. They enjoy a range of facilities on the company site, which is shared with the nearby VELUX window factory.

On 28 November 2013, Beijing was the third Chinese pilot region, after Shenzhen and Shanghai, to start its pilot emissions trading scheme (ETS). The pilot covers about 40% of the city's total emissions, including both direct and indirect emissions from electricity providers, the heating sector, manufacturers and major public buildings. The first compliance period ended in June 2014.
