  Looking at a city’s Google Maps data, in combination with other data, a new tool from Google can estimate the carbon footprint of all of its buildings–and the carbon footprint of all the car trips, bus and subway rides, and other transportation used by the people living there.

IPEEC is an autonomous partnership of nations founded in 2009 by the Group of Eight (G8) to promote collaboration on energy efficiency. Its membership now includes 17 of the Group of 20 (G20) economies, which represent over 80% of global energy use and over 80% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (OECD, 2015). IPEEC is the lead coordinating organisation for the G20 Energy Efficiency Leading Programme.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction. All interested citizens and stakeholders can send their contributions by 9 October 2018. In March 2018, EU leaders asked the European Commission to present, within 12 months, “a proposal for a strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement”. This followed a similar request from the European Parliament.

Reuters, 15 June 2017       Oil producer Norway will prohibit the use of oil and paraffin to heat buildings from 2020 as it tries to rein in domestic emissions of greenhouse gases, the government said on Thursday.   The ban will cover new and old buildings, and applies to private homes and businesses as well as publicly owned facilities, the Ministry of Climate and Environment announced.   "Those using fossil oil for heating must find other options by 2020," Environment Minister Vidar Helgesen said in a statement.
