Cyprus has incorporated into its national law an EU Directive (2010/31/EU) which aims to improve the energy performance of buildings while taking into account the external climatic conditions and indoor climate requirements.

The settlement and accommodation problems brought about by the increase in world population had always been major issues; architecture was expected to develop solutions for.   The rising population and other problems our habitats had been suffering, led to immigration whereby architecture also had its share of unfortunate consequences.

The EIP-SCC has launched a guidance package to help towns and cities move towards a sustainable future. The toolbox is the fruit of many European projects, including REMOURBAN.   In early May the Committee of Regions held a high-level event to launch the Smart city Guidance Package, a roadmap for integrated planning and implementation for Smart City projects.

History   The history of the IEA began with the 1973-1974 Middle East War crisis and its immediate aftermath.   While oil producing countries appeared relatively well organized to utilize their new oil based economic and political power, many OECD countries found themselves inadequately equipped with the information and organization necessary to meet the corresponding challenges.
