The SUSHI project stems from a holistic approach to facing common challenges that have already been identified in historic districts of six cities in five countries: Lisbon (PT), Valletta (MT), Savona (IT), Ptuj (SI), Nicosia (CY), and Sassari (IT). With the idea of sharing, the project will adopt a common structure to identify opportunities for innovation, which will accelerate the learning process and transform historic districts into sustainable and lively districts.

On the one hand, historic buildings stand for a considerable part of societal energy use and the pressure to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions is increasing. On the other hand, the historic building stock is an important cultural and material resource that we need to manage carefully for the benefit of present and future generations. Thus, we must find ways to balance the needs of building conservation and energy conservation.

Nowadays resources are running out quickly, it’s necessary to consider how the construction industry influences the environment using different materials and sources during all the building’s life cycle. For this reason, in every transformation phases it’s necessary to consider concepts as sustainability and green buildings. These are diffused from hundreds kind of green assessment tools, developed to measure sustainability goals in building sector and to compare the project with possible best practices or other green buildings.

As part of the European Research programme, COST (Cooperation in Science and Technology), since 2017 a network of researchers and experts from industry, academic and technological development organisations have been actively addressing the question of what would a paradigm shift in sustainability in the built environment sector look like. A new paradigm calls for a more comprehensive and holistic approach to sustainability, one that focuses less on energy, but rather on actively contributing to the regeneration and improvement of people, society and planet health.

This paper presents a case study of a sustainable certification of a building renovation. The new LEED® rating system, GBC Historic BuildingTM protocol, proposed by Green Building Council Italy and addressed to Italian historical heritage, was applied to the High School “A. Canova” in Treviso, chosen because it was built before 1945 and it required a restoration work.

Robusto Interno Isolamento Termico di Edifici Storici
RIBuild è un Orizzonte 2020, il progetto di ricerca che si sviluppa linee guida su come installare interno isolamento termico di edifici storici, pur mantenendo il loro patrimonio architettonico e culturale.
Lo scopo del progetto è quello di ridurre il consumo di energia in edifici storici, al fine di soddisfare la UE 2020 obiettivi climatici ed energetici.
