The 2012 Sector Study commissioned by the Architects’ Council of Europe shows that the profession is still suffering from the economic downturn. Although rates of decline are falling, architects have had to adapt to this on-going situation.

The Scheme covers investments relating to purchasing and installing new equipment, and where necessary, the cost of design. The investments must pertain to established technologies, and not to those that are still at a research and development stage.

‘In 2011, for the first time, European investments in renewable energies were higher than for conventional fuels. Europe already produces over 3.8 GW from wind power alone!’ said Oettinger, adding that there would be ‘no sustainable economic growth without sustainable energy’. The Commissioner promised ‘more jobs in renewable energy, on top of the million we have already created’.
