Could you tell us about EPEC’s work, especially how it relates to investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy?EPEC was established in September 2008 as a unique cooperative initiative of the EIB, the European Commission and EU Candidate Countries and Member States. We have an international team of 18 professionals working on a range of PPP issues alongside Member States.

Mentioning a '20% increase in energy efficiency' as one of the main priorities set out in the Europe 2020 strategy for 'smart, sustainable and inclusive growth,' Hahn spoke firmly about the important role of cities in acheiving these ends: 'There has been much talk in Brussels in the past couple of years about these objectives and how to achieve them,' said Hahn. Apart from energy assessors and inspectors, there is one more wide category of specialists that is essential in the achievement of energy efficiency in the building sector: That is the category of various craftsmen and other on-site construction workers and systems installers that will be relied upon in the construction of new buildings and/or the renovation of existing buildings.

Hannover, 22.11.2012 – More than half of the overall world population is living in urban areas - with rising tendency. The permanently increasing urbanization can be driven to more sustainability by ecological concepts for mobility, energy-efficient buildings and intelligent energy supply. Intelligent energy supply had also been the main subject of the well-attended “Sustainable Energy in Buildings and Urban Areas” Symposium (SEBUA 2012) which took place in Kusadasi near Izmir/Turkey from October 14 – 20, 2012.

Installers of Small-Scale Renewable Energy Systems

Article 14(3) of the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (Directive 2009/28/EC or RES Directive) states that "Member States shall ensure that certification schemes or equivalent qualification schemes become or are available by 31 December 2012 for installers of small-scale biomass boilers and stoves, solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, shallow geothermal systems and heat pumps.

BEEP database is a global one stop shop for building energy codes, labelling and incentive schemes implemented in the 28 IEA member countries, BRICS countries and Tunisia for a total of 34 countries. BEEP currently provides detailed information on more than 400 building energy codes, 200 labelling schemes and 200 incentive schemes.
