The Commission officially launched a new, revamped website for the EU-UN initiative Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG), which aims at addressing the investment gap on energy efficiency. The objective of the new website is to keep stakeholders in the financial sector better informed on EEFIG activities, including synergies between the existing EEFIG structures and new EU initiatives foreseen under the European Green Deal, notably in the renovation wave initiative.

The European Council approved the European Union’s EUR 1.82 trillion seven-year funding package and sent it to the European Parliament. The regular budget is worth EUR 1.07 trillion and the remaining EUR 750 billion is a recovery instrument called NextGenerationEU. The bloc’s leaders called for a cut in emissions by 55% in the next decade.

A project pipeline of over 30 buildings has been developed by the project of which five have been fully renovated. Like many other Eastern European countries, Latvia has a significant stock of multi-family buildings that were built between 1954 and the late 1980s, never fully renovated and bear huge energy saving potentials.

Funding is a crucial element for implementing energy efficiency activities. Different funding sources exist in all EFFECT4buildings project countries. Based on the results of interviews 70% of the respondents inform that they have received external funding to implement energy efficiency measures. Within this tool we present different external funding sources for EE investments available for public building owners and managers.

The eCentral project aims to support key stakeholders in the energy renovation of public buildings, to promote the benefits of nZEBs – nearly zero energy buildings, and to deploy innovative financing schemes.

The European Banking Federation (EBF) and UNEP FI are co-organizing an online event to launch a report: Testing the application of the EU Taxonomy to core banking products: High level recommendations on 26 – 27 January 2021. This report is the result of 25 major banks, seven banking associations and five observing organisations working together to test, pilot and assess the complexities of applying the EU Taxonomy to core banking products.
