Achieving the transition from a fossil-based economy to a sustainable biobased bioeconomy is founded jointly on bioenergy continuing to significantly grow its vital contribution to decarbonising the energy mix in solid, liquid and gaseous forms … and in order to go the whole distance, we equally need the bioeconomy to come to full fruition.

The French government has announced plans for a sustainability law that will ensure all new buildings to be built with 50 per cent timber or other bio-based materials by 2022. Bio-based materials are made from material derived from living organisms (e.g. hemp and straw).

Since the start of All Saints' Day 2017, students in Secondary 5 and 6 of the College "Notre-Dame de bon secours" in Binche are the first in Belgium to take classes in a building isolated with straw and wooden frame.
A spacious, bright, and healthy pavilion has replaced a prefabricated sheet metal energy wastage. This pavilion is the first prefabricated school building made of wood, compressed straw and clay plaster in French-speaking Belgium.
