On 15 July 2020, the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) will co-host the online event “Building the future 2020 – boosting innovation in the construction industry”. Projects developing new construction materials to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and fostering a circular economy will show how this industry can become more sustainable. The event also concludes the EU project INNOVIP.

This hard-stone elementary school is located in Mulhouse in the Alsace region (north-eastern France), near the border with Germany. It is a listed building, since it was built in XXVIII sec as a spinning factory at a time which Mulhouse had an active textile industry and became a school in 1870. It has recently been retrofitted with a project balanced between low energy consumption and heritage preservation, with the availability of a constraint budget.

The building "L'Etape" was built in the early 1960s in the city of Charity sur Loire. It is a social housing building and the renovation aims to create spaces for temporary houses, training and short-term activities organized by the municipality.   The existing building presents a rectangular form on 4 levels and a total floor area of around 502m².

Researchers at ETH Zurich have created a machine that controls the setting rate of concrete to offer a "seamless transition between casting and 3D printing" so that structures can be made that use less material.   The system called Fast Complexity combines two existing technologies for creating concrete forms – 3D printing concrete and casting into formwork.

Haugerudsenteret (Oslo, Norway) – Our first success story. Energy performance to be assessed The Norwegian demo case, located in Oslo, is the first example of a successful implementation of 4RinEU methodology. The renovation works took place in the second half of 2018 and lasted only eight weeks, during which the tenants kept living in their dwellings.

The building is used as a residential, and the aim of the renovation has been the conservation of the ancient walls of the medieval castle, considering modern comfort standards with the target of achieving a building ad a high standard of energy efficiency, (i.e. the NZEB standard).
