This yearly publication presents the progress of a portfolio of 174 European research projects aiming at developing new technologies for energy efficient buildings. 110 projects have been co-funded within the EeB PPP under the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) from 2010 to 2013 and 64 projects under the Horizon 2020 Programme (H2020) between 2014 and 2018.

Held concurrently with Thailand Lighting Fair (THLF) 2019 and Secutech Thailand 2019, the three fairs will hold hands and bring out a new direction “Smart + Energy” to industry players. Overall, the fairs are segmented into six main sections, including Applications – Digital Living, Technology – Smart Tech, Management – Smart Governance, Energy Source, Power Generation and Energy Management, aiming at easing the impact of rapid urbanisation in Thailand and ASEAN regions by moving forward to achieving smart living in smart cities.

When it comes to building sustainable buildings, humans have a lot to learn from termites.   A recent study that colleagues and I published in Science Advances explains how some African termites maintain cool and stable temperatures in their nests throughout the year. The answer lies in the wall of the nests, composed of tiny but highly-connected pores.

The politics of climate change in Australia has always been about the costs of change. It’s often debated in terms of we can’t afford or can afford to pay for the changes needed to our power, transport and building systems. However, the benefits can also be calculated and in general can be shown to outweigh the costs in the long term. We can also very easily see the short-term economic benefits in our cities.
