Smart technologies in buildings can be a cost-effective means to assist in creating healthier and more comfortable buildings with a lower energy use and carbon impact and can also facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources in future energy systems. One of the focal points of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is to better tap this potential of smart technologies in the building sector.

In its vision 2050 prospective document, the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling – RHC ETIP – envisions that 100% renewable energy-based heating and cooling (100% RHC) in Europe is possible by 2050.

These three sister initiatives, funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, will present their knowledge acquired to date in terms of energy efficiency. The 4th sister project INNOVEAS will also participate as attendee. The European Commission has established a new EU financing mechanism to support renewable energy projects, as foreseen under Article 33 of the Governance Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 of the Clean Energy for all European package. It becomes operational from January 2021.   The main objective is to enable Member States to work more closely together to achieve their individual and collective renewable energy targets, covering gaps that may have been identified.
