The influence of insulation on efficiency and cost savings should be quantified and considered in every decision.
A new calculation tool has been launched in order to provide detailed answers to these questions.

European Aluminium welcomes measures to increase building renovation rates across the European Union, but calls for a better framework concerning the calculation of the performance of building elements under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD); insulation is only one part of the story, solar heat gains and daylight are just as important.

PlasticsEurope welcomes the European Commission’s proposals for a revision of the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) and the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) which maintain the current framework of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) for all new buildings and establish a long term vision for the existing building stock. PlasticsEurope however stated that much more focus and priority should be placed on minimising energy consumption of existing buildings as it will not only reduce energy poverty in Europe but create jobs and have environmental benefits.

Domestic efforts play an important role in curbing global warming. Besides producing and using renewables, homes can also act as banks that store CO2. This innovative building model exploits bio-based materials, such as timber, straw and hemp, which act as “carbon sequestrators.”

On 9 September 2016, Thermaflex North West Europe, a company which develops and manufactures insulation and pre-insulated piping solutions for thermal energy distribution, was recognised for creating the most positive environmental impact by the international non-profit organisation, B Lab, on the annual ‘Best for the World’ nomination.

This report, released by the ZERO-PLUS project, is on the combined energy and environmental performance of the proposed energy production and management technologies. More specifically, the document covers the final results from building modelling and simulation on the expected energy and environmental performance for eight types of residential buildings (ranging from villas to apartment buildings for social housing) across four case studies (Cyprus, France, Italy, United Kingdom).
