The 28th edition of Restructura (26-29 November 2015) in Turin will offer main actors from the construction chain the possibility to discover innovative technologies which have been developed within the European EASEE project for energy efficiency in buildings. On 26 November 2015 (2-4pm), the workshop “From design to implementation: innovative retrofitting approaches” will present technological solutions and related strategies to be implemented in the area of building renovation in terms of energy reduction.

The growing awareness of the benefits of biomaterials has led ISOBIO, a European research project, to focus on developing insulating solutions relying on bio-based aggregates such as straw or clay. The ISOBIO scientists say that by using locally sourced plant waste, it may be possible to halve the embodied energy involved in producing insulation panels. Plant waste has the added bonus of locking CO2 inside the insulation material, reducing its overall carbon footprint.

Good news for those planning to build a new home: novel insulation materials based on plant waste, such as straw, clay and grass could offer 20% better insulation than traditional materials.   Other relevant factors, such as reducing the energy and CO2 emissions needed to create and transport traditional construction materials, could contribute to the reduction in total ‘embodied energy’ across the whole lifecycle of a building, as much as up to 50%.

ACE, the Architects’ Council of Europe, will proudly present results and progress of three FP7 projects that they are involved in: LEEMA, iNSPiRe and A2PBEER on 16 June from 13:30 onwards in the Maison des Associations Internationales in Brussels.   The conference will present various innovative materials and technologies in thematic sessions on Lighting, Façades and Insulation.

As many as 28,000 fuel poor and vulnerable Scottish households will receive help to make their homes easier and cheaper to heat. The Scottish Government will launch a new national scheme in September, worth up to £224 million over seven years. The scheme will install insulation, heating and low carbon or renewable measures in the homes of households who are identified as living in fuel poverty, with a wider range of options for people living off the main gas grid including solar thermal and biomass systems.

The FoAM-BUILD project will develop thermoplastic particle foam using newly developed raw materials, additives and process set-ups.   A nano-scaled structure will be used for the particle foam cell morphology to achieve the targeted insulation behaviour; new polymer blends and nano-scaled nucleating agents in combination with a new high pressure drop rate expansion process will be developed to realise the nano-cellular foam.   This development has the following objectives:

These professional guidelines from the French Program RAGE 2012 concern double walls with outdoor thermal insulation.More and more French buildings use the double wall technique: the inside wall is the bearing wall, the outside wall with its siding brings aesthetics while protecting the thermal insulation placed between the two walls.
