Local/regional/national authorities and facilitators

SSPCR 2019 aims to answer the question on how can we maximize the impact of academic research, the scaling-up and replicability opportunities of pilot projects, and the added value of local bottom-up initiatives, in relation to complex challenges posed by the smart city/region approach?   Therefore, building projects that wish to put their work in a larger (urban or regional scale) will find in this conference the right audience.

As building envelopes and mechanical and electrical equipment become more efficient, the impact of occupants on building energy increases.   Meanwhile trends in teleworking, co-working, and home-sharing mean vastly different occupancy than the standard occupancy schedules.   Finally, global expectations for comfort are increasing, while a variety of new technologies may or may not succeed in meeting this demand.

Within the framework of the achievement of both 2030 energy efficiency targets and the 2050 EU building stock decarbonisation goal, the pressure put on the shoulders of the actors involved in the energy renovation value chain is undeniably high.   And while many EU funded projects aim at the same goal, namely bridging the gap between the supply and demand in the energy retrofit market, how market-responsive are they?

Many people are working on the ground to advance the Energy Transition, whether they are a part of a local or regional energy agency, a public authority, a non-profit organisation or a private company.   All of these people show the same creativity, motivation, leadership and strategic vision to scale up energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources. The Roger Léron Award was established to reward their work and recognize their achievements.
