As the “Tour de France” pack of cyclists just biked the first kilometres of the race, the first snapshot is presented of the 236 public and private commercial buildings that have taken the lead in the 2017 Contest for better Use and Building Efficiency CUBE 2020. At the end of April, after four months of efforts, the candidates have a cumulative 3.2% of annual energy savings (that is to say a prospect of 10% by the end of the year) and 3.3% of greenhouse gas reductions. A dozen candidates passed the 10% threshold.

On 14 June 2017, the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EuroACE) organised a workshop in Madrid, Spain, on ‘Energy Renovation of Buildings in Spain’. Over 50 participants from the industry, the financial sector, the European Commission, Spanish national and local authorities gathered in the Official College of Architects Madrid (COAM) to discuss the crucial role of building renovation in the Spanish Energy Transition and for the Spanish economy.

The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) put the finishing touches on its comprehensive work on smart buildings, providing a working definition of a ‘smart building’ and making detailed policy recommendations to encourage their growth. The current negotiations on the Clean Energy for All Europeans package are a final opportunity to shape the European building stock of 2030. This latest intervention comes at a crucial point in support of those pushing for more ambitious policy and a genuinely smart European building stock of the 2030s.

Dabei werden auch statistische Daten präsentiert. So verbrauchen die Deutschen weniger Energie bei gleichzeitig wachsender Wirtschaft. Von 2013 bis 2015 sank der Energieverbrauch pro Euro Wirtschaftsleistung um etwa 7 Prozent.
