Is Prague the least affordable city in Europe?

Prague residents have experienced the surge of housing prices the most compared to other EU countries.

Housing prices in major European cities are soaring, with Prague residents facing the highest burden according to Politico's study. Affording a 75 m2 flat in Prague requires 25.3 annual salaries, ranking it the most unaffordable city for housing purchases in Europe. This trend has worsened over the years, with apartment prices surging by 50% and rents by 30% since 2010.

Despite modest wage increases, affordability remains a challenge. Analysts predict a further 5% increase in property prices this year. Proposed solutions include prioritising public housing expansion and implementing progressive taxation on large property owners to mitigate speculation-driven price hikes.
