The building is an office of the company Thales Communications & Security in Bordeaux Mérignac completed in 2017. Designed by the architect Jean-Philippe Le Covec to improve the performance and well-being of its occupants, the campus is composed by nine buildings in the heart of a landscaped park. The architect imagined at the entrance of the site, an entire building dedicated to the reception and services with a restaurant, a business center, a space dedicated to the works council, a conciergerie , a showroom and many meeting rooms. Above all, the seven office buildings are connected by a "technological boulevard", a veritable interior street designed to encourage traffic and exchange between Thales employees. A place that combines many and where employees of different departments are brought to meet and exchange.


One of the main objective of Thales was to make well-being a key performance issue by facilitating employees' daily lives and encouraging a healthy work / life balance. In fact, the Campus in the heart of a landscaped park of 1,700 seats and 250 places for bicycles and two wheels.


In order to reach the comfort objective, the building was designed with high standards and energy efficient solutions.


The envelope has a metal frame and presents external insulation with an average thermal transittance of 0.36 W/m2 K


The building is connected to the urban district heating system, while the domestic hot water is supplied by individual electric boilers. There is a mechanical ventilation installed with a double flow heat exchanger and a heat recovery system for reducing the heating loads during winter and the cooling loads during summer, that are reduced through a water chiller.


A special focus has been devoted to the design of the control system, enabling to meet the comfort expectations of the occupants. The building management system present a great adaptability over time by allowing space planning, thanks to the control devices connected to addressable luminaires and fan convectors.


The yearly primary energy need for the building accounts for 83 kWh/m2, 40% less than a standard building according to the French calculation method RT2012. In particular, the breakdown of energy consumption is: auxiliary ventilation: 36% (30.5 kWh / m²), heating: 31% (29,1 kWh / m²), Lighting: 25% (21.5 kWh / m²), domestic hot  water: 5% (6.6 kWh / m²) and cooling: 3% (3.6 kWh / m²)


Thanks to the high environmental quality and comfort standard the Thales Campus in Bordeaux reached the certification HQE® and BREEAM.
