The Energy Caravan campaign to decarbonise Freiburg´s built environment

The participation to the campaign aims at promoting energy efficient refurbishment of the building stock and thus reducing energy consumption.
Editorial Team

The main goal of the city of Freiburg is to reach climate neutrality by 2035. To do so, it is implementing two main strategies: one the one hand, increasing the availability of funds and subsidies, on the other hand promoting renewable energy and refurbishment of the building stock.

In particular, being part of the Energy Caravan campaign since 2017, the city aims to achieve climate transition by engaging homeowners and influence their decisions on the energy renovation of private buildings and support with financing and administrative options. Hence, under this framework, Freiburg provides free energy advice to owners of freestanding or semi-detached houses in specific neighbourhoods. Concerning the average impact, 25% of homeowners accept the municipal offer of the energy consultation, and around 60% go forward with implementing the renovation measures.
