Luminescent 'reactors' could enhance energy sustainability of buildings   Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are a promising technology for building integrated photovoltaics. However, optical loss mechanisms such as light scattering are preventing prototype devices from achieving the theoretical energy conversion efficiencies.

eu.bac welcomes the 2021 revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which has become necessary in light of the increased ambition agreed in the Renovation Wave. To meet EU climate targets and fully decarbonise the building stock by 2050, stronger measures must be put in place at the European level.   In this paper, we provide our initial suggestions. We have structured our suggestions in 6 chapters, each containing specific policy recommendations:

District heating (DH) systems are one of the most energy efficient heating systems to deliver heat in urban environments, with proven reliability within many decades already. DHs are also identified as key systems to achieve the de-carbonization of heating energy in European Cities. Renewable and waste heat sources are foreseen at the same time as de-carbonized heat sources and the way to guarantee competitive energy costs with limited influence of fossil fuel supply price volatility.
